Spring is officially here, which means it’s time to start getting your home ready for summer entertaining.
Take advantage of the warm and rain-free days that we do get and start taking care of your Des Moines yard with this spring home maintenance checklist.
Exterior spring home checklist
Roof: Bust out the binoculars (or that drone you got for Christmas) and look for any problems such as broken or missing shingles. If any nails are coming out, get up there and nail them back down. Replace any bad shingles.
Exterior walls: Walk around your house and inspect any exterior walls to see if there are notable problems. Look for holes or openings where ants, bird and other unwanted critters might get into your house.
Windows: A tight seal from caulk and weather stripping if your first line of defense against water and air. Look for any areas around windows where air or water can get into the house. That will hurt your utility bill. And make sure window sills don’t need a new coat of paint. Then wash your windows inside and out.
Air conditioner: Make sure your A/C is ready for another Des Moines winter. Call Kohles & Bach to schedule your spring air conditioner clean and check. We’ll make sure everything is working great. And if your unit is more than 10 years old, you might want to consider a replacement.
Interior spring home checklist
Attics: Search for signs that any critters have made their way into your attic. Search for any signs of mold. And check that your insulation is OK.
Basement: Check for cracks in walls and any signs of water damage. If you see signs of dampness, you might want to call Kohles & Bach to have a whole home dehumidifier installed.
