Comfort Maximized - From New Plants to Air Conditioner Service

December 11, 2015

With cooler temperatures settled in and days that seem like there’s very little any daylight, it can be tough to always feel like your home is a cozy place to be. That goes far beyond having annual air conditioner service too, because there are numerous things you can do to help make your home feel comfortable even when your air conditioner is operating at its peak.

Here are a few that we find very helpful here in Des Moines:

  • Seal air leaks. Air leaks, whether they’re around your windows or your doors, can mean quite a bit of air is escaping your home. And, the air that you’ve just paid to be heated or cooled is making its way outside too. There are various fixes that can help you shut those gaps, from weatherstripping to caulking, and they are fairly basic fixes for homeowners to take care of themselves.
  • Swap your air conditioner filter. This is one of the most important things you can do to not only increase your air conditioner’s efficiency, but also to help save you on your bills. Plus, you don’t need to have your air conditioner service technician to do it, you can handle it yourself. It’s usually recommended to change your air conditioner filter every one or two months to get the most out of its capabilities, but some can last even longer.
  • Get plants. Indoor plants can leave you with a variety of comforts for your home. Not only are they visually appealing, they can possibly improve your indoor air quality as well because plants absorb a number of pollutants that are emitted from various common household cleaners, paints and other products.
  • Air conditioner service. This should be something that you’re already doing, but it never hurts to have a reminder. Having air conditioner service completed annually helps you make certain that your air conditioner is in working-order, and if there’s a need for repairs, those can be handled so your comfort isn’t compromised.

It doesn’t have to feel hard to keep a comfortable home when winter sets in. Feel free to give us a call at 515-207-6569  to hear about any of these suggestions or find out more about air conditioners, our air conditioner service or anything else comfort related.
